Zozo Championship moves Stateside, ending PGA Tour Asian swing for 2020

The PGA Tour officially announced Monday night that this fall's event will move to Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, and be temporarily rechristened the Zozo Championship @ Sherwood.Per the Tour's release, the move is the result of "unprecedented challenges" and "unique circumstances" — namely, the ongoing COIVD-19 pandemic. The Zozo, scheduled for Oct. 22-25, made its Tour debut last year, with Woods winning his 82nd Tour title, tying Sam Snead for the all-time record. via Golf Channel

Well, its now official: The Asian Swing of the PGA Tour has officially moved stateside for the 2020 season. The Zozo Championship joins the CJ Cup in moving their tournament from Asia to the west coast. And while the HSBC is still holding out to play in Shanghai, it wouldn't surprise me to see them ultimately move the tournament, or cancel it entirely.

Now while this is unfortunate for the Asian golf community, I think this will definitely help out the PGA Tour players. It allows them to stay in the US during what looks to be an incredible fall of golf. With these tournaments leading up to the Masters in November, it will give the players time to challenge themselves to play well in these tournaments.

Plus, it helps that Tiger Woods, last year's winner of the Zozo Championship for his record-tying 82nd victory, has had some success at Sherwood Country Club before:

The Five-Time Winner of the World Challenge, Tiger scored each of his victories at Sherwood Country Club. Let's hope he can repeat these actions and have a great week at Sherwood again!
