Rory McIlroy WILL defend his FedEx Cup Championship despite injury concerns

(Via BBC Sport)  McIlroy's management confirmed in an email that the world number four intends to defend his FedEx Cup title.

The world number four shot a 68 to tie for 22nd in the US PGA on Sunday, and has now gone three years without a major victory.

"You might not see me until next year," McIlroy, 28, had said after the US PGA.

The confirmation from his management followed a tweet from McIlroy announcing details of a competition to play with him in the pro-am before next month's BMW Championship.Just like it was always better when Tiger was in contention, so to is golf better when Rory is playing at his peak. Though he never has been nor ever will be as good as Tiger, there is something about Rory being in contention that makes a ton of fans tune in to see whether he can mash a drive a mile down the fairway, put his second shot wihin 10 feet, and drain a putt for the win. Sadly, we haven't seen Rory get a win on tour this year. Its been a tough year for him injury wise this year, and it seemed at just a week ago that we wouldn't see him for the rest of the year. As the quote above stated, after the PGA Championship, Rory contemplated hanging it up for the rest of the year to try and heal from his injuries. It would have been a big blow for the defending FedEx Cup Champion to not be able to defend his title. But luckily, we don't have to worry about that now! Rory has been one of my favorite players since he busrt onto the scene in 2009, and it has been a joy to watch him become one of the best players in the world today. I'm really hoping he can put up the good fight and try to make a run at becoming the first ever back-to-back FedEx Cup champion ever!
