Michelle Wie withdrew from the CP Open and had an appendectomy on Sunday
Wie was tied for 23rd, six strokes behind leaders Mo Martin and Nicole Broch Larsen after rounds of 71-68-70 at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. A week earlier, she went 1-2-0 while playing for the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup team.
Thus far in 2017, Wie has had seven top-10 finishes in 17 starts and sits 30th on the Rolex Rankings. In July, she had to withdraw during the second round of the U.S. Women's Open at Trump National Bedminster due to muscle spasms in her neck. In her next two starts, she finished tied for 19th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and tied for third at the Ricoh Women's British Open.
Tough way to end the weekend for our girl (and Ultimate American) Michelle Wie on Sunday. She has had a great season so far this year, and could have really increased her point total in the Rolex Rankings. Being within 6 shots of the leader, though she may not have had a great chance of winning, she could sneak up the board and have a chance of her eighth top-10 finish. It also can set her up to miss the next few tournaments, which would really hurt her in the rankings going forward. Luckily, she gave us an update this morning via her twitter account.
My appendix is out of my body! Been a scary 24 hrs but I just wanna thank the medical staff here in Ottawa for making me feel comfortable! pic.twitter.com/XFlamr8l0z — Michelle Wie (@themichellewie) August 28, 2017 //platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Overall, it sucks that she had to miss out on a few tournaments, but I'm glad she's getting better. Here's to a speedy recovery and hopefully seeing Big Weezy bombing drives down the fairway soon.
